The focus of this course is to familiarize and train educators in how to locate and create virtual field trips to enhance the classroom curriculum. Based on the National Educational Technology Standards and Performance Indicators for Teachers, all teachers should “Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments”.
This course will allow educators to identify the characteristics of a good virtual field trip and to search available websites for grade and subject appropriate virtual field trips to enhance and extend student learning and correlate to course of study standards.
Educators will explore online digital resources, Web 2.0 tools, and internet websites to assist in the creation of their own virtual field trips. Strategies for assessing student learning throughout the virtual field trip will also be included. A planning template will guide teachers through each session of the course, allowing them to collect resources for creating their own virtual trips.
